Fake-It Asian Take Out

Ever have one of those nights where you crave a specific dish but don’t want to go out? This usually happens to me with Asian food. It’s still a bit intimidating to me to try these dishes at home and the flavor is never exactly like my favorite places, but it’s fun to try. I’ve got beef and broccoli, fried rice and Tom Kha soup pretty much figured out, but still trying to master so many others!

In order to whip up some quick Asian dishes at home I always try to have these items on hand:

  • Soy sauce
  • Sriracha
  • Fish sauce
  • Garlic
  • Ginger (the tube of it stays great)
  • Peanut butter
  • Various noodles and brown rice
  • Chicken broth
  • Coconut milk
  • Limes
  • Red chile paste

Homemade Pad Thai

One of my new favorites for homemade Thai food is this quick chicken pad thai. The marinated chicken, fresh lime flavor and creamy peanut sauce are a great combo. I used whole wheat noodles and added some red pepper too. I also added some Sriracha to the peanut sauce for an extra kick. Make sure to squeeze some lime on right before serving and top with crushed peanuts. For some crunch bean sprouts make the dish.
